Oconeefest raises almost $17K for scholarships
The University of North Georgia (国产自拍) raised $16,952 for student scholarships at the 12th annual Oconeefest fundraiser held Oct. 16 on 国产自拍's Oconee Campus front lawn.
Russell Willis, executive director of 国产自拍's Oconee Campus, noted that the first 11 years of Oconeefest provided $37,720 in Oconee Resident Scholarships for 25 students. This year's funds raised will add to those totals.
"We love being part of this community," Willis said. "Thank you for loving us back."
国产自拍 President Michael Shannon shared a story of visiting in the nation's capital with a student from 国产自拍's Oconee Campus who serves as a congressional intern this fall and how proud the student is to be part of the university. He said stories like those underscore the importance of 国产自拍's work in Oconee.
"Thank you for investing in our students," Shannon said. "Students need us, and we need you."
Peach State Federal Credit Union and Georgia Power served as presenting sponsors for Oconeefest.
"Education is our foundation," said Develon Davis, regional business executive for Peach State Federal Credit Union. "And we want to make sure we do our part every year."
Tony Ferguson, Northeast Region executive for external affairs for Georgia Power, earned a business degree from 国产自拍 and said the university is doing important work.
"We are so glad to be part of this, and thank you for all you do for Oconee County," Ferguson said.
