Overview

Abby Lopez Humphrey is a proud first-generation college graduate and first-generation Mexican-American who understands firsthand the challenges, sacrifices, and resilience that often shape the college journey for first-generation students. Raised by a single mother with barely a third-grade education, Abby grew up believing deeply in the transformative power of education, not only as a pathway for personal growth, but as a means of changing the trajectory of future generations.

That belief became her purpose. For nearly a decade, Abby has worked in college access and student success initiatives supporting first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students as they navigate higher education. Through her work at the University of North Georgia, she is passionate about creating spaces where students feel seen, supported, and empowered to succeed — not despite where they come from, but because of the strength and perspective those experiences bring.

As someone who once navigated college without a roadmap herself, Abby deeply values mentorship, advocacy, and community. She hopes students know that they belong here, that asking for help is a strength, and that their story has power.
